Medical School Facilities Notification for Holidays & Season Days

Please note the following modified services that will be in effect surrounding the holidays and season days.

For assistance during the holidays and season days:

BUILDING ACCESS
All card read doors will lock on their regular schedule Friday, December 22nd and require a valid Mcard for access through Monday, January 1st. Scheduled hours will resume on Tuesday, January 2nd. The Mcard office located at NCRC will be closed for appointments Thursday, December 21st and resume normal business on Tuesday, January 9th. To request access or Mcards click here.

DOCK SERVICES

There will be no medical school or campus mail or dock services over the holidays or on scheduled season days. Please notify vendors of dock closings when placing orders. Any courier deliveries must be arranged directly with the courier company itself. The dock staff will not be receiving any packages during this time. Contact Research Services at Dock 6, 7 and 90 (734) 763-0773 if you have any questions or concerns.

RESEARCH SERVICES

Glass-wash, autoclaving, biohazard waste pickup, tank deliveries, dry ice deliveries, and M-SHIP services will be provided on scheduled season days Tuesday, December 26th - Friday, December 29th, but will be closed over the holidays, Monday, December 25th and Monday, January 1, 2024. All services will resume normal business hours on Tuesday January 2, 2024.

Please note, clinical operations will be supported through the holiday season.

CUSTODIAL SERVICES

Limited custodial service will be provided starting Friday, December 22nd through Tuesday, January 2nd in all buildings. There will be no trash pickup in offices or labs, but you may use one of the multiple trash gondolas placed in various common areas, as well as the kitchenette to dispose of trash during this time. Call the Facilities Service Center (734) 647-2059 if there are additional needs. Normal custodial services will resume on Tuesday, January 2nd.

GROUNDS SERVICE (Snow Removal)

Limited grounds service will be provided during the holidays and season days. Please use the main building entrances in the event of a heavy snow. These will be the first locations to be cleared, along with service areas. Use caution when walking on any surface as conditions can change quickly. Call the Facilities Service Center (734) 647-2059 if any areas need additional attention.

ENVIRONMENT, HEALTH & SAFETY (EHS)

All hazardous materials waste collection, waste disposal supply deliveries, and radioactive material deliveries/transfers will be suspended from 4:00PM on Thursday, December 21st through 8:00AM on Tuesday, January 2nd. For hazardous waste collection and supply delivery, please contact Environment, Health and Safety (734) 763-4568, by Friday, December 15th to schedule collection/delivery. For radioactive material orders or transfer requests, use the Radiation Safety Service Clearance Code Request to request a clearance code no later than Friday, December 15th, and confirm with vendors that radioactive material shipments will arrive at EHS no later than 12:00PM on Thursday, December 21st.

Secure all chemicals and experiments before leaving and make sure hood sashes are closed.

CAFE & VENDING SERVICES 

The NCRC Picasso Café in Building 18 will close on Friday, December 22nd for the holiday and will resume normal business hours Tuesday, January 2nd.

The Market Twenty 4 Seven at NCRC will be replenished on Saturday, December 23rd. The Market Twenty 4 Seven at BSRB and MSRB 3 will be stocked on Friday, December 22nd and Friday, December 29th. Then will be back to regular hours on January 2, 2024.

WELLNESS CENTER

The NCRC Wellness Center will be closed on Monday, December 25th and Monday, January 1st.

HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY & SERVICES (HITS)
Health Information Technology & Services (HITS) Help Me Now locations will be closed on Monday, December 25th and Monday, January 1st. All other dates will hold normal operating hours. For assistance, reach HITS in the following ways:

ENERGY REDUCTION

Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) schedules for administrative areas will be reduced over the holidays and season days. Lab and vivarium areas will remain unchanged. Please do your part to help reduce our utility consumption and make a positive impact on the environment by:

  • Working from home if approved by department supervisor
  • When hosting an event, consider making it a zero waste event
  • Turning off all unused office equipment, such as computers, monitors, printers, fans, coffee makers, task lighting, and unplug cell phone chargers
  • Closing windows to prevent water pipes and sprinkler heads from freezing
  • Closing fume hood sashes

SAFETY
Throughout campus we need your help to maintain a safe and secure environment. Please remind your staff, faculty, and student colleagues to complete the following before they leave their work, research or living areas for the holiday season:

  • Close and lock all windows and doors
  • Secure valuables and lock desks and closets
  • Ensure the safe shut down of labs that will not be operational over the holiday (cap chemicals, shut down equipment, etc.
  • Call DPSS for any hazardous or radioactive spills
