Medical School Facilities, Environment, Health & Safety (EHS), and the Office of Campus Sustainability (OCS) are hosting events that will allow laboratory occupants to clean up their spaces and dispose of chemicals, and also provide them an opportunity to donate usable items or request items free of charge.
CHEMICAL AMNESTY DAY
On Chemical Amnesty Days, Medical School occupants can clean up laboratories and properly dispose of unwanted, bulk, or expired chemicals. These will run from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on the following dates, in the following locations:
- Wednesday, April 23: NCRC, Building 25, Rm 142N
- Wednesday, May 7: BSRB, Rm A638
- Wednesday, May 14: NCRC, Building 520, Rm G399A
- Wednesday, June 4: MSRB 2, Rm A556
Chemicals must be properly sealed, labeled, and transported safely (preferably on a cart) to each location. Please do not transport chemicals outside the buildings or in public areas to reach event locations.
Special Note: Chemical transportation is prohibited inside the NCRC tunnel. Please attend the event schedule for the east and west sides of the NCRC complex.
LAB SWAP DAY
The Lab Swap Days support U-M’s waste reduction goal by enabling surplus lab materials to be used in other campus labs rather than being sent out for disposal. These in-person lab swap events will enable the research community to rehome lightly used, non-expired lab materials, consumables, glassware, and small equipment in a convenient, on-site process.
Drop-off times are 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. and “shopping” times are 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. on the following dates and in the following locations:
- Wednesday, April 30: NCRC, Dock 90
- Tuesday, May 6: BSRB, Seminar Rms
- Tuesday, May 13: MSRB 2, Dock 6
These Lab Swap Events fall under OCS Lab Reuse umbrella - where labs can donate and get free items all year long!
