Specialized Program of Research Excellence

A Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) is a type of research grant awarded by the National Cancer Institute through their Translational Research Program. Each SPORE concentrates on a specific cancer type, focusing research on prevention, early detection, diagnosis and treatment of that cancer.

The University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center has been awarded three SPORE grants:

Head and Neck Cancer SPORE

Prostate SPORE

Gastrointestinal Oncology SPORE

The U-M Comprehensive Cancer Center's Sarcoma Program is a member of the Sarcoma Alliance for Research through Collaboration (SARC). SARC was awarded a Sarcoma SPORE in October, 2012. Learn more about the Sarcoma SPORE grant.
