“Reproducibility, rigor, transparency and independent verification are cornerstones of the scientific method,” starts a November 2014 editorial published in leading scientific journals. It was the start of an initiative led by NIH to address increasing reports of failure to replicate important basic/preclinical studies.

That movement has culminated in new standards for NIH grant applications that will demand researchers consider the robustness of their proposed research—specifically, scientific premise, scientific rigor, biological variables and authentication of key resources. This presentation will provide context and strategies for addressing these new requirements.
