Koinonia Trio will perform classical music – also referred to as art music because it encompasses mainly western, modern and contemporary classical styles.

The Koinonia Trio was formed in Ann Arbor, Michigan in September 2015. Their mission is closely related to their trio name, “Koinonia”, a transliterated form of the Greek word, κοινωνία–which means communion, joint participation; the share which one has in anything, a gift jointly contributed, a contribution, etc. Since its formation, the trio won the Michigan MTNA Chamber Music Competition and was awarded the University of Michigan Performing Arts EXCELerator Grant Fellowship. Pianist Hye-jin Cho is from Seoul, South Korea, violinist Christine Harada Li grew up in Anchorage, Alaska and cellist Nathaniel Pierce grew up in Cottbus, Germany. Members of the trio have studied at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, University of Michigan School of Music, Ewha Women’s University and Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover. Currently members of the trio are the Artistic Directors of the Anchorage Chamber Music Festival and Education Directors at Innsbrook Institute Summer Music Academy and Festival.
