DTE Energy will be switching the feeds that provide electrical power to the North Campus Research Complex (NCRC) over to the new APEX substation on the rescheduled date of Friday, April 16th. A second line will also be transferred in a couple weeks. There will be no impact to the buildings during these transfers. Once these two switch-overs are completed, this new substation will provide more capacity and more reliable power with new power transmission infrastructure and new underground transmission lines (not susceptible to falling tree branches).
As in much of the United States, the electric infrastructure serving the Ann Arbor area was constructed decades ago and was not built to support modern-day demands. This can lead to inconvenient, and sometimes costly, power outages. The electric system improvements will enhance the reliability of electric service to Ann Arbor residents and businesses, and create additional capacity to support growth throughout the region.
