Annual Steam Trap Testing

Starting on January 24th the annual steam trap testing will begin at NCRC. Testing will be conducted by Zach Sweet from SS Combustion & Steam.

This testing supports the University’s Sustainability Goal of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 25% by 2025.

The current testing plan has the buildings in the following order:

1. 80
2. 10
3. 14
4. 15
5. 16
6. 17
7. 18
8. 20
9. 22
10. 23
11. 25
12. 26
13. 28
14. 30
15. 35
16. 36
17. 60
18. 70
19. 90
20. 500
21. 520
22. 550

Most steam traps only take a couple of minutes to test. Work will typically take place daily between 7:00AM and 7:00PM. Testing should be complete by the end of February.

Most of the testing will be conducted in mechanical spaces with little or no impact to occupants, but there are some areas within the building which will be tested (ie. autoclave rooms, corridors, etc.).

Alternate times for testing can be accommodated to meet occupant needs. Please let the steam trap tester know if he should come back to do the work if he arrives in your area at an inconvenient time.
