Description of Work

Furnace Design Studio, hailed as one of the trendiest and hippest studios in the Midwest, mixes talent, creativity and business savvy, to create a unique upscale studio

and event facility. Artists and founding partners Michelle Plucinsky and Chris Nordin

fabricate and design site-specific bodies of work, mainly in glass, for private and public

spaces. Using hand sculpted glass, blown glass, metal, wood, and quite often hand

forged steel, Furnace Design Studio creates one-of-a-kind sculptures and fixtures that

help clients stand out from their competitors. In addition to corporate awards for

business clients, their work can be viewed in many area landmark restaurants and office

complexes throughout the US such as the ‘Forest of Reconigition’ in the Henry Ford

West Bloomfield hospital, and the Miami Marriot in Florida to name a few.

Glassblower, designer, sculptor

Contemporary Modern design plays a big role in my designs and glass sculpture. Much

of my work evolves around themes of nature and color pattern. I make those ideas

interact within our daily lives and modern culture by producing works that are both

beautiful and interesting, creating a dialog with the viewer.

Although I am classically trained as a glass craftsman, I currently find myself starting

to employ a variety of mixed media, from natural elements such as plants and foliage to

wood and metal that mimics nature. These materials help me to fully embellish my

ideas and create the finished look I desire.

Chris Nordin

Glassblower, Sculptor, Designer

History, tradition, and technique are the main influence of every piece of work that I do.

These three sources are highly integrated together with Italian glass culture.

Not limiting myself to traditional materials, my work continually draws me towards

alternative mixed media. Knowing that the sculptural side of my work is the true

challenge to my creative processes, this opens the door to the ever-challenging sport of

technical blowing, allowing me to sharpen my skills to a level that satisfies my technical

needs. Technical glassblowing is an endless road, which is why I love using glass as a

medium, either as sculpture or sport.
